To Everything There is a Season

A study on acceptable time periods and the importance of prayer (Part 6)

babylon

Aside from Jerusalem, there is more said about Babylon in the Bible than there is about any other city or power in the world! In history, it occupies a large place, but in the prophecies, A MUCH LARGER place. … So, why does God continually point us back to Babylon and its fall, especially in the book of Revelation? We will see that, although the physical city no longer exits, its ways do and its fall in ancient time has VERY SIGNIFICANT lessons for our day – we MUST understand them!

To Everything There is a Season

A study on acceptable time periods and the importance of prayer (Part 5)

part5

In the history of our planet, there have been some very significant time periods in which God has visited His people with special favor and deliverance; in our last study a few notable ones came to mind:

  • The flood
  • The deliverance of Israel, through Moses, from their Egyptian bondage
  • The deliverance of Israel at the end of the 70 years of Babylonian captivity
  • The first advent of Jesus!

To Everything There is a Season

A study on acceptable time periods and the importance of prayer  (Part 3)

Jerusalem

~ “O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, [thou] that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under [her] wings, and ye would not! 38Behold, your house is left unto you desolate. 39For I say unto you, Ye shall not see Me henceforth, till ye shall say, “Blessed [is] He that cometh in the name of the Lord.”” Matthew 23:37-39

This is the separation struggle. From the lips of Christ, the very heart of God is pouring itself out. It is the mysterious farewell of the long-suffering love of the Deity. To Everything There is a Season

A study on acceptable time periods and the importance of prayer  (Part 2)

everything a season 2

I grew up in a little port town in southeastern Alaska, at the edge of a vast and beautiful mountain range – the Chugach. As in any port town, there are many fishermen—many sailors, and from all parts of the world. Growing up in the midst of this life I once heard the old proverb: “Red sky at night, sailors delight. Red sky in morning, sailors take warning.” Can a red sky in the morning really predict bad weather? Evidently, for it has been observed by many for thousands of years and now even has scientific explanation*. Jesus was also familiar with these signs in the weather and used the opportunity to bring home a truth that is vitally important for us today:

~ The Pharisees also with the Sadducees came, and tempting desired Him that He would show them a sign from heaven. 2He answered and said unto them, ‘When it is evening, ye say, ‘[It will be] fair weather: for the sky is red.’ 3And in the morning, ‘[It will be] foul weather to day: for the sky is red and lowering.’ O [ye] hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky; but can ye not [discern] the signs of the times?’  Matthew 16:1-3

To Everything There is a Season

A study on acceptable time periods and the importance of prayer (Part 1):

Everything a Season

I love the fall. It’s my favorite time of year. Although everything is dying there is something strangely wonderful about pumpkins, brightly colored falling leaves and chilly northern breezes. Here in Alaska the mountains get their first dust of snow leading to a snow line that steadily moves down the mountain, until one morning you wake up to a magical wonderland (and of course squeals from your children as they tear the house apart looking for their snowsuits). But as dazzling as this time of year is, here in the northland, autumn quickly disappears and we are reminded that seasons don’t last forever – there is an appointed time for everything.
